Jean-Christophe Zelis takes over the management from Iris, who directed the company for 10 years.

Public Prize Dance Week Festival

We are happy to announce that To the Ones I Love won the Public Prize of the Dance Week Festival in Zagreb !

Summer 2010

On July 4th, Compagnie Thor will present To the Ones I Love at the Annual International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival in Bytom, Poland.

On August 5th, we return to Poland, to Poznan where we will be at the Centrum Kultury Zamek.

We close this season at the Düsseldorf Tanzmesse on August 27th at the Capitol Theater.

Next January, Alternatives théâtrales is publishing a special edition for the twentieth anniversary of the company. This temporal, stylistic, and theoretical analysis is written with empathy and distance by one who has been close to the choreographer in his artistic and personal journey, the dramaturge, critic, and writer Antoine Pickels.

A few days before the Première of To the Ones I Love, a rich visual account of that journey in an eminently photogenic work on the body and the stage as a counterpoint.

To the Ones I Love - creation 2010

PREMIERE 27,28 and 29 January 2010 at the opening of the festival Pays de danses, Liège

With this new creation, Compagnie Thor returns to pure dance within an aesthetic composition. Bach’s music, within a soundscape by Maxime Bodson, carries this abstract choreography. Thierry Smits works for the first time with dancers of African origin and blends his dance language with their specific individual and physical richness. The nine dancers rule over a white, nearly empty stage. There is no story, the message does not direct itself to the mind but to the senses.
To the Ones I Love tells about the body in movement, the pleasure of dancing, and wishes to lovingly share this energy with the spectator. This playful choreography also celebrates the companies 20-years existence.

Prix de la critique 2007

Thierry Smits and Compagnie Thor were awarded the 'Prix de la critique 2007' (the critics' Prize) for the creation V.-Nightmares, awarded by Belgium's french-speaking cultural press for the best dance performance of the 2007-08 season.

New season 2008-2009

The new season opens this December for V.-Nightmares, at the Théâtre Varia in Brussels (9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 Dec.).
D'ORIENT is heading for its fourth season and will travel through Belgium, France and the USA.

V.-Nightmares on creation

We are currently working on the last two parts of the 2007 tetralogy V.-Nightmares. V.-Nightmare 2-3 / TAN - Moss&Mould, the summer and autumn parts, will be presented as a preview at the CNCDC Châteauvallon (France) on September 15th, after a two-week residence there.
The whole cycle is then to be premièred at the Kaaitheater in Brussels on November 7th. Check out our calendar for more tour dates.
